About Course
Academic writing is an essential skill in higher education and scholarly communication. It enables students, researchers, and academics to present ideas systematically, construct evidence-based arguments, communicate research findings, and contribute to the development of knowledge. However, effective academic writing requires more than proficiency in English. It also involves critical reading, logical organization of ideas, appropriate citation practices, the ability to synthesize scholarly sources, and continuous revision. Therefore, this micro-credential module is designed to strengthen participants’ academic writing competencies in English through a structured and self-paced learning approach. It provides foundational knowledge and practical skills to support the development of clear, coherent, credible, and academically appropriate written work.
Academic Writing: Mastering the Fundamentals of Scholarly Communication is a self-paced micro-credential module designed to develop essential academic writing skills in English. The module consists of six sub-modules covering key aspects of scholarly communication. Participants will learn the fundamentals of academic writing and critical reading, develop coherent paragraphs and apply appropriate citation practices, construct evidence-based arguments and organize ideas through outlining, and use paraphrasing and summarizing techniques to communicate source material accurately and avoid plagiarism. The module also introduces literature review writing, including systematic searching, critical evaluation, and synthesis of scholarly sources. Finally, participants will develop revision strategies and an appropriate academic voice to improve the clarity, coherence, and quality of their writing. Each sub-module is supported by instructional videos, reading materials, and quizzes to facilitate gradual learning and competency development.
